Influence/ Impact
Castles have a far-reaching effect, and have single handedly shaped the modern world. Now whole cities have been modeled after the castles built hundreds of years earlier, still utilizing the same universal concepts. Today, we can thank castles for many things, including:
- Large, "Holy" Churches
- Stained Glass Windows
- High Ceilings
- Wide, Ventilated Aisle Ways
- External Support Structures; Exoskeletons
- Cities; densely populated portions of the country with tightly-knit citizens
- Relation between architecture, wealth, and social status (The wealthier civilians, reside in the more prestigious buildings, clearly showing their status)
- The many religions around the world
So many things that surround us-- both architectural, and not-- can be linked to the castles built during the Middle Ages. These items have become valued parts of our lives, and have revolutionized the way that we live our lives.
